individually quick frozen

8 Aug

So today I am freezing things.

The CSA has been growing some fabulous green beans this year, but with the spouse travelling so much we can’t keep up.  So into the freezer they go.  Anyway, it’s always nice to have a stash of iqf veggies for the middle of winter.

I rinsed them, blanched them for a couple of minutes, froze them on parchment lined baking sheets, and threw them into bags.  The strawberries are from the co-op and were simply washed and put on a sheet to freeze.  They are probably destined for jam.  I would have liked to make it right away, but it has just been too hot around here for that job.

boy or girl

4 Aug

A friend of mine had her baby yesterday.  She didn’t find out what she was having before hand, so I was prepared either way.  Well, sort of, I had just a couple of rounds left on the girl hat when I got the news she had a boy.  The ribbed one for a boy, and the lace for a girl.

They are both knit with blue sky alpaca’s Royal 100% alpaca.  I love knitting with this stuff.  It is so soft.  The ribbed is a blue sky alpaca pattern that I purchased at a local yarn shop.  The lacy knit is the vine lace baby hat pattern from knittingdaily.com.  I found myself off a couple of stitches during the decreases.  I tried to resolve it, but ended up starting over.  Baby hats go so quickly that I learned my lesson the first go around.  This time the hat looks great.

Can’t wait to deliver it.
