as the pieces settle

Based on the traditional ocean waves block that was hugely popular in United States in the mid 1880’s. This version shifts from light to dark, neither completely white or completely black but shifting and changing with each block as they shift and settle into each other.

Well adjusted

Well Adjusted is my mediation on the importance of stitching ourselves back together when life cuts us to pieces. Thinking about how we work to get all the little pieces of our life to fit together just right. Then life just cuts right through it. Slicing through all those carefully planned bits. We are left to stitch ourselves back together. Losing little bits of ourselves in our scars, leaving jagged edges behind I spent hours carefully hand piecing each block and then got out my rotary cutter, randomly sliced off sections and then stitched them back together to create a new block.

the pigeon

This quilt was made using the English Paper Piecing technique where small pieces of fabric are wrapped around paper that has been cut into a specific shape. Here I used 1 inch hexagons. Each hexagon is wrapped and secured with large basting stitches, then one by one, they are stitched together. At this point, the papers are removed and the layers of fabric and wadding can be quilted together.

The pattern is based on a ceramic tile floor from a show I was watching one evening.
